Chelsea Aborts Bid For David Luiz

David Luiz

Reportedly, Luiz has been tipped as the star of the next decade.

At this point, defender Luiz is set to remain with Benefica after talks between the Portuguese champions and Chelsea broke down today.

Luiz has been included in Benfica’s squad against Rio Ave in tonight’s Portuguese Cup tie and is set to start the match as well. The Brazil international was omitted from the squad for Saturday’s league win against Nacional.

During the January – winter transfer window, some players declare they want to leave their team to further their career and an interested team trys to do business. Clubs are looking to move players on to finance bringing in new players – some want to bring in a new player to strengthen their side and to inspire players with new blood mid-season. It is an exciting time for everyone and yet frustrating at the same time. Hopes go up – only to be dashed by financial matters.

David Luiz’s move to Chelsea from Benefica appears to have fallen through – the two clubs decided to call off negotiations after not reaching an agreement over the terms of the transfer.

Benfica has refused to lower David Luiz’s €25m price tag, however Chelsea are reluctant to meet the cost and all talks have now been aborted.

Both Manchester City and Chelsea has been interested in David Luiz for awhile. Luiz has been targeted by Chelsea manager Roberto Mancini who wanted Luiz signed quickly. The original £35m asking fee for Luiz is extraordinary.
